Deeply shocked by the accident that occurred to the Columbia space shuttle, we offer our condolences in regard to the death of Col. Ilan Ramon and his six other crewmembers aboard the space shuttle. We sincerely hope that words of comfort to the people of Israel and Ilan Ramon’s family members in particular will at least give a feeling that the whole Jewish world will stand by them during these painful moments.
Col. Ramon served our people and mankind. His memory will live for ever, as a very special person, as a dedicated Jew who realized that going into orbit was a remarkable step for the state of Israel as well as for the Jewish people as a whole. A fact he underlined by bringing Jewish items into the shuttle, including artefacts from the Holocaust.'
